Command Bridge

Command post of a ship; The command bridges of the new container ships of Hapag- Lloyd AG is called ship management centre

Commercial invoice

A complete record of a transaction between exporter and importer with regard to goods sold. Also reports the content of the shipment and serves as the basis for all other documents about the shipment

Commercial Letter of Credit

Commercial letter of credit which in particular, used as a means of trade financing in the Anglo-Ameri can states. It has the same importance as the letter of credit. The sole difference is that it is directed to the party selling the goods and not to the bank, as in the case of a L/C

Commodity

An article that can be transported

Commodity Box Rate

Container rate which is charged as a lump sum for the transport of certain goods. The extent of utilisation of the container has no influence on the rate. However, certain loading limits (in respect of weight and volume) must be observed

Commodity Rate

A rate published to apply to a specific article or articles

Commodity Tariff

A tariff published to show specific rates on specific articles

Common Carrier

A transportation company that operates under a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity and provides service to the general public at published rates

Compass Deck

Deck above the command bridge where the magneticcompass and locating equipment are located

Complaint

Term used if goods are found defective. For exports they are noted in the tally sheet and later on in the B/L
