Claim

A demand made upon a transportation line for payment of a loss sustained through negligence

Class

Each ship and engine is classified by a classification company to which an application for classification was submitted. The classification is allotted at regular intervals (mostly five years) and serves as proof of quality, similar to a mark in school. If the classification expires the protection by insurance of the ship equally expires

Class Mark

Short encoded note in the class certificate regarding the class allotted to the ship and/or engine by the classification company

Class Tariff

Tariff according to which certain types of commodity are combined in classes for which a certain sea freight rate is applicable. Opposite: Commodity Tariff

Classification

A publication, such as the Uniform Freight Classification (railroad) or the National Motor Freight Classification (motor carrier), that assigns ratings to various articles and provides bill of lading descriptions and rules
