Bulk Carrier

Ship for the transport of bulk

Bulk Carriers

All vessels designed to carry dry bulk cargo, as well as carriers with bulk cargoes such as grain, ore and oil

Bulk Freight

Goods that are shipped loose ? not in packages or containers (i.e. grain, coal, sulfur)

Bulk Freight Container

Refers to a container with a discharge hatch in the front wall; allows bulk commodities to be grasped by loading hatches

Bulk Goods

Term for all loose bulk material and liquid goods whose quanities cannot be indicated by the piece. The dry cargo includes e.g. bauxite, ores and grains, the tank cargo includes liquid chemicals, vegetable oils and crude oil. Opposite: conventional cargo

Bulk Material

Bulk material such as e.g. grain, coal,iron, pebbles, sand or stones

Bulkhead

A partition separating one part of a ship, freight car, aircraft or truck from another part. A structure to resist water

Bull Rings

Cargo-securing devices mounted in a floor of containers that allow lashing and securing of cargo

Bunker charge

An extra charge added to an ocean carrier’s freight rates. Also known as FAF (Fuel Adjustment Factor)
